  1. DISCLAIMER: Star Wars spoilers likely contained within. If you still haven't seen it yet (seriously?), consider yourself warned.
  2. This set was provided by The LEGO Group for the purpose of review, but the opinions that I provide are that of myself.
  3. I built this set before taking photos, as is customary for my reviews. I usually get sets to build first, then review later. I do, however, have photos of the box before building. I do not have any shots of it in progress.

Review: 75115 Poe Dameron

It’s not often I get to treat myself to a new CCBS set, especially a Star Wars one. With today being May the Fourth however, it was a good time to just sit back, break open a box, and build away. So, today I get to review Set # 75115, Poe Dameron.

The Box

From the Box, it honestly looks like a run-of-the-mill Rebel pilot, nothing fancy or looks out of place. The back shows some poses for the set, including how the blaster works. It also shows the secondary blaster sidearm, a nice little addition introduced to all the sets in this line.

The Parts

Parts-wise, we’ve got some decent parts to look forward to. The blaster of this year is a great feature, with four of the six sets getting it. The helmet head is a wonderful mold and features a built-in transparent amber visor for the eyes, though I wish I could remove the helmet from the head itself.

The orange parts are nice, and the armor is printed, though it does mean two less parts that can be used in MOCs randomly.

One very nice part to shout out to is this 2x2 plate with 2 small pins on the back. I looked it up, it was released as far back as 2014 in a total of 19 sets, but I had never seen it prior to Poe. It’s such a useful part, especially with the integration of more System parts in CCBS sets, it’s actually interesting.

I’m very bummed that they didn’t release Poe helmet-less, or with a small little BB-8. That would sell the set in a heartbeat for me.

The Build

So basically Poe is just like any CCBS figure up to this point with a new can of paint: Orange and black is in style in this Resistance, with just a splash of white to accent. Again, two panels are printed on, which lends to a pretty decent looking design, though it’s not without flaws.

I want to just take a moment to rant about one part: I am not a fan of this white “vest” or whatever they want to call it. The panels aren’t locked in; thus it flexes quite a bit. The sticker sheet features heavily in the chest (and belt) area, and while they are nice additions, the tile could have easily been printed for this purpose.

I am digging the blaster and sidearm blaster. Such a simple design for the sidearm, but it lends very well to the set. The main rifle, as I mentioned earlier, is featured in four of the sets this year. The construction is simple enough, utilizing the spring launcher 1x4 brick that was introduced a few years back. The trigger is pretty sweet too, easily one of the better methods I’ve seen utilized in a set to date.

Overall

Should I get this set?

Yes

  Good for people who like:

*Basic and unique parts – Oh yes, we have plenty of those
*Unique colors – Yep, got those too
*Good weapons stock – The blasters are actually unique, and I’d recommend them to anybody looking for inspiration in MOCing
  Not for those looking for:

*Stickers – Still plenty of those too, sadly
*CCBS BB-8 – Seriously, not even a one-mold piece? Sadface
*Fans of Oscar Issac’s face – I’m not letting it go LEGO, I’d love to have a helmet I can take off and put on someone like Rey or even Luke
  Other Comments:

Okay, not gonna lie here; he’s not exactly my first choice for a war scene. However, the set itself is unique enough for parts and some designs. Vest aside, he’s up to the task of being a good soldier and a fun set for any kid or teen to build and play with. Swert

Poe Dameron is the first main character we meet in The Force Awakens, and though the movie doesn’t spend as much time as we’d like with him, he still has a place in the movie, so I’m glad to see he’s featured in some fashion here. I just kind of wish he had more going for him.
