File talk:Mahri Nui Outside Close Up.png

From BIONICLEsector01

I guess i just picked this image at random, but i wanted to start a discussion about image citations. not too long ago, we started citing as much as possible in our wiki articles, which is a great thing that i've wanted to have done for a while - huge props to the people who actually got the code going on that.

That said, we have virtually zero citations for all the images on our wiki. (in fact, there are probably several discussion pages for images where i've simply asked "where is this image from?") In keeping with our citation system that we're using on our articles for factual information, i propose we also cite all our images - what their original source(s) was/were, and where we got them from, including any updated resolutions (as the years go on, these now low-res photos will get smaller and smaller on our increasingly hi-res screens - hopefully we'll be able to keep the image resolution up to date without messing up the quality too much.)

If this is a discussion that should be instead had on the articles for creation page or somewhere else, feel free to move it over there. i just wanted to get this conversation started. :) Intelligence4 (talk) 23:19, 17 June 2017 (CET)

The MP talk may be the best place, it'll get more visibility that way. We started implementing a system like this on HS01 back when, and it seemed to work well. Paging Dorek since I believe he was one who pushed for that. -- Morris the Mata Nui Cow (talk) 01:35, 18 June 2017 (CET)
I'd love a system like that, but on HS01 nobody ended up using it. If some poor soul wants to go around adding a template (once we make one) to the gajillion images we have, I certainly won't stop them! -- Dorek Talk External Image 07:28, 18 June 2017 (CET)

what does the current template look like? i think i'm thinking of a navbox thingie, but do we have a page for each template, or... how's that work?
i'd be happy to add citations to images that i know are from somewhere, but there's so many on there that i don't have a clue where a bunch of them are from. (this very image is a good example - the one's talk page we're on)Intelligence4 (talk) 03:47, 19 June 2017 (CET)
Just want to point out: You already do have Template:Copyright, which relatively easy could be expanded to include additional information beyong just the name of the artist and the actual copyright owner (such as {{{title}}} for all books, movies and comics etc.) and categorize all images that use it (like Category:Images from {{{title}}}). It is not implemented on many pages though. Vezon23 (talk) 00:01, 21 June 2017 (CET)
